Background: Kalek is a young man looking to be about 18 years of age by human standards.. He was born in a far away realm that goes by the name of Kamikos(AD&D character setting), though who his parents were it wouldnt be known. In his infancy he was found in a hovel that was once belonging to a family of elves, what type they werent sure..the shadow elves had run across them and ransack the village by the time the human patrol sent to keep peace had arrived. An elf maiden had come across an infant inside of the hovel, an brought it to one of the commanding officers that were in charge of the soldiers... She called the child by a certain name, though the man wasnt very forth coming with the answer in later years. Since the child needed a family, and the man was with his wife for many years, he adopted the child, a tiny winged elf with large golden eyes. The man and his wife raised the child as if he were their own, taking him under their roof with their rise to lordship and such. He grew up in the courts of Karmikos, though mainly in the shadows..he wasn’t well liked for the pristine, white wings that were on his back. He never had any friends..choosing to stay inside and read as much as possible, while practicing swordsmanship and archery with his father when he wasn’t. The people of Karmikos by tradition would have an event called a sending.. The young men of the village would be sent on their ways to travel, and make something of themselves, bring them to bearing to uphold the family name they were to inherit, or to make a name for themselves. The night before Kalek’s sending his restless elfish ears picked up a faint sound, what seemed to be something shattering. He roused himself and went to investigate, thinking that it was one of the servants, clumsy with sleep. Once upon the scene he was suddenly attacked, not being prepared for the thief which did so. He had a dagger thrown at him, flung through the air end over end to embed itself into his chest near his heart. He collapsed to the floor, not able to move, for the magic of the dagger and what had been done to it, as well as the shock of fright that he was put into for how much pain the dagger had caused. He laid helpless on the ground, paralyzed as the thief neared, only wanting for the person to be away…to go away.. He watched as the thief suddenly became surprised, and was shoved quickly back through the window whence he came. Servants who heard the commotion finally arrived, to find their young master crumpled on the floor with the dagger in his chest, and went for help. Healers came, and managed to keep him alive, how he was able to survive for how long he did was uncertain to them.. They had found that the dagger was magically poisoned, and healed him for what they could, a hideous scar manifesting itself, for the damage wrought couldn’t be undone. The healing was done by a mage who had come at the healer’s beckoning, to rid Kalek of the poison, and heal what he could. They boy awoke, ears attuned to the sound of heated argument which came from the doorway, only to see the mage casually slip from the estate, leaving his father to his rage. That night, Kalek was told that his sending was to be postponed, until he had completed his studies at the Karmikos Academy for Magi. He father was wroth to tell him such, but allowed him thus for his love, not having loved magic in the least for all of his life. Kalek attended the school, and learned very quickly, astounding his teachers. He graduated from the college with in a year, thought to be the first to ever have done so. Through out his time at the college, there were event in which expulsion was eminent for his dabbling in spells which he had no right to..but the punishment was stayed for reasons unbeknownst to him. Once the schooling was finished, he returned home, to finally take part in his sending. During the sending, his father bestowed upon him, the Hawkmoon family sword, a hand-and-a-half sword, with a slightly decorative hilt, looking to be that of a golden hawk, clasping a mother of pearl in its talons. Since then, Kalek has done nothing but travel trying to make his way in the world, and prove himself, whence he finds himself to this strange land..
